Petrified Forest Protectorate Open Air Museum
New Cairo City, Egypt

The petrified forest covers an area of 3.5 square kilometres, and the project includes: renovation of the entry facilities (ticketing, offices, kitchen, toilet, and a main gate); two main and seven smaller shaded outdoor visitors’ stations with seating; protection zones, retaining walls, and fencing; and informational and directional signage. The outdoor shaded stations are built from steel, and the triangular-shaped roofs are covered with palm-fond panels; benches are built from recycled railroad beams. Signage is applied to rusted metal sheets; animal-proof trash-bins are located within local limestone containers. The existing entry facilities were renovated with lime plaster. Parking facilities are covered in compacted soil rather than asphalt.
