House on a Plateau
Islamabad, Pakistan

For a single father and his two sons, this countryside retreat atop Potohar Plateau comprises three separate volumes linked by covered walkways within a garden setting: an entrance pavilion with parking; a central block with living, kitchen, and dining facilities on the ground floor and a shaded terrace above; and a two-storey block with four bedrooms, each with a separate bathroom. The low-profile compound is designed to blend into the rural landscape and the buildings feature double stone walls built by local masons from chakwal stone; light steel frames support the covered areas and upper terrace and are covered with panels of woven sarkanda or sugar cane.
