Accessible Design

Accessibility standards
Hi,
I am Kalpana, a student of architecture. I intend to do my thesis on the following topic, "A National Institute for the empowerment of people with multiple disabilities".

Could anyone help me with information available regarding the design and social standards?

Kalpana,

Some thought needs to be given to the "disabilities" caused by age. A recent example is a medical practice being put on the third floor of a modern building.

The lift broke down (surprise, surprise) and an elderly, frail lady had to struggle in constant pain up the stairs because she has arthritis.
