Can an atrium make a building more energy efficient?
Atrium design can help save energy in a building in many different ways: daylighting, air ventilation, etc. But air conditioning poses a problem: how can atriums keep cool with minimal air conditioning energy consumption?

Rahul, I doubt modern atria (plural of atrium) make buildings more energy efficient because most modern atria are large or even huge glasshouses. So that either the glass has to be shaded in hot weather / hot climate, or use some type of reflecting mirror glass.

The original atria were Roman and were simply enclosed and shaded courtyards with rainwater channels and collectors.
