Preservation of historical sites in Pakistan
I am a Masters student in architecture, studying in Canada. I intend to do my thesis in preservation and restoration in Pakistan, preferably in the Northern Areas or any other potential site.

Th best person to contact for restoration and conservation is Mr. Sohail A. Khan. He spend eight years in the Northern Areas and restored the Baltit Fort with the help of the Aga Khan Foundation and recently was doing the Mangla Fort. I'm afraid I don't have his number but you can contact the chairperson of the Institute of Architects, PAkistan, Islamabad Chapter to get his number at shama@iap.com.pk

You may also get in touch with Ms. Yasmin Cheema who is an authority on Restoration and is working on the restoration of a site in Ucch near Multan. Try finding her contact on the following email: archtime@cyberaccess.com.pk (website of Archi Times)They would know her contact numbers.

Hi, I'm starting my final year of BA Interior and Spatial Design in London. I too intend to produce my thesis on the same subject as I'd like to eventually specialise in Historic Preservation and this seems like a good start.
I'll be in Pakistan from July till end September, was wondering if there are any current projects that I can (if possible) get involved with and focus on for my thesis.

You should look to the work that the Aga Khan Trust for Culture through Aga Khan Cultural Service-Pakistan has undertaken in Pakistan, such as Baltit Fort, Shigar Fort, Altit Fort, Khalplu Palace (pictured at right) or the Walled City of Lahore. Some of these projects are featured in the Archnet digital library. Perform a simple search on Archnet and a trove of documentation exists on these projects including a brochure entitled: Baltistan and Hunza: Conservation and Development Projects and Karakorum: Hidden Treasures in the Northern Areas of Pakistan.
