XXIII UIA World Congress Torino 2008
The overall theme
The overall theme In 2002 at the UIA Berlin Congress, Torino was the first Italian city nominated to organize the 23rd UIA Congress based on the overall theme of "Transmitting Architecture". Architecture which communicates and is communicated, in all manners and in all locations, involving every aspect of a profession which deals, on a daily basis, with the quality of life, the landscape and the environment.
It is along these lines that the 21 members of the Scientific Committee are guiding all the activities of both the Congress itself and additional events.

TRANSMITTING ARCHITECTURE: CULTURE, DEMOCRACY, HOPE

CULTURE:
It is the nature of Architecture to transmit history and culture.
It is the ethical responsibility of architecture and architects to conserve and valorize architectural and landscape heritage.
Defending an heritage is also transmitting to people, above all to the new generations.

Architecture is for everyone

DEMOCRACY:
Architecture often bears and architect's signature yet is always the result of a process of "several hands", a compromise.
The concept of urban democracy lies in this: in the modes, the bahaviors, strategies and politics that enable this compromise to be the best one possible and to sui the need even of the less heeded categories.

Architecture is for everyone

HOPE:
There is a need to transmit the values of environmental protection that architecture possesses when it builds good projects.
We want to transmit to future generation a world still habitable, possibly even fitter for habitation: ideating and creating eco-compatible designs is a specific responsibility of architects all over the world.

Architecture is for everyone

...first i have to read,
...then
...will write about it...
