visionary architecture!!
architecture has gone through many phases say from romanesque, byzantine, bla bla...to cubism ,art deco, art nouveau and int he age of post modernism where every new building seems admirable but not worthy to be seen as monumental by a common man
as an architect what acc. to u is visionary architecture
are you daring enough to create a revolution in architecture!

U, know Amit, even if it sounds very funny, but to me the truely visionary architecture that exists and yet is subjected to ridicule are the very simple vernacular houses, built in co-ordination with nature. There is practically no need to adhere to any rule, codes or regulations. Why don`t you take a stand .. ?

i agree wid u somi..
but it is not truely visionary..if iwas goin 2 make visionary buildings .. i would introduce curves rather than the normal cubic rooms!!

yes, our designers experimented on curved lines for rooms.but not because they're visionary in any way. they're simply bored with cubic forms. their designs however never materialized because of budget constraints.

hey Amit , thats a nice topic to debate upon. i think there is nothing like Visionary Architecture as such unless and until u do what u want to do and dont follow the norms and traditional way of thinking ie sticking to cubical forms. if u want to do organic structures no doubt u stick to your way of style. criteria- U gotta convince ur design to the client precisely, specially in India. Conclusion- Dont kill your style for anyone. Read FOUNTAIN HEAD by Ayn Rand if u havent, u would find the answers to your own questions.

Swapnil Joshi,

thanks for the hint. I did not know Ayn Rand (she is practically not known in Europe). Precious pearl: Greenspan admitting that she strongly influenced his life! Wow! Regarding her story 'The Fountain Head': Roark, the architect-hero, confronted today with horror books like Jenck's 'Language of Post-Modern Architecture', degrading architecture to anything goes-language [Ronchamp = Duck] and condemning architects to "RADICAL [Eurocentric] ECLECTICISM - he would have to be an architectural researcher, anthropology style!

Once more: thanks!

I agree that architecture has lost the audaciousness that it used to have during different historical periods. Mostly, visionary architects pose there vision on society trough their design, much more than making a style or 'decorating' a box.

Maybe the biggest chalange for us, architects of the 21st century, is to pose our vision on a multicultural society. Several cultural clashes in our western societies tend to 'colour' our mood and political thoughts. I believe the goal of architecture in the 21ste century lies in structuring the public domain in means of a more intercultural environment.

Being a student in architecture, attending my masterproject, I'm taking the challenge to design buildings as a communication-tool between cultures, because I believe in building a multicultural future for the world!

hi Amit,i admire your naiveness in blocking out the real world. Architecture is a free spirit that only lives in Architects.architecture is supposed due to changes with nature that is "times, enviroment, desires and civilisation"as oposed to money influence Architects are revolutionaries of there own when you design your own house or building this is when the spirit is let free to blend with nature with no limit. BUT .......Wake up in the world where clients sets limits due to economical constraints the spirit is dead cast and baried 6 feets under.
