whats the referential image? why does landscape design strive to bare a picture perception? Has the perception of landscape matured and expanded in last decades?

It does seem that we do "the pretty stuff" when it comes to multi-disciplinary teams. Personally, I find this frustrating. It is very limiting if we cannot design what we cannot draw!
