Historic Preservation

Urban Renewal/ Historic Preservation and Sustainable Development
I am interested in sustainable methods to revitalize urban environments and in the adaptive reuse of historic structures. I am approaching this from the development field (not architecture). More specifically, I am interested in private sector ventures and investments in community-led urban development and historic preservation. I am hoping that some of you may be of help. What are the best sources of information on this topic? What institutions or companies are active globally in this field? Do any of you work in this field? Thanks!

Zamir, you should take a look at the work of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and the Aga Khan Development Network as a whole. The Historic Cities Support Programme of the Trust not only looks at the conservation and preservation of historic monuments and areas, but the economic and social sustainability of the populations in the adjacent areas around their projects. The Historic Cities Support Progamme is currently undertaking initiatives in Kabul, Cairo, Mostar, Aleppo, and Zanzibar. Click here for more information on the AKDN

Thanks for your post Shiraz. You have an interesting bio (and pictures). Well done for having developed this online resource.
