Seeking Guidance

Technical drawings (plans, sections, details) of buildings in Pakistan
Hello,
I'm a PhD student looking for technical drawings and descriptions of semi-rural/rural buildings in Pakistan (any province or territories in Pakistan would do). I'm not looking for general descriptions, but specific technical information for a few representative houses of distinct building types. They can be any building types (manna, jumpari, mud, bhattar, dhajji, etc.) in any setting (except the reinforced concrete multi-storied urban apartment buildings, this is why I specify semi-rural or rural).

By technical information I meant architectural plans and sections showing the dimension and geometry of all architectural features and the structural system, as well as wall/roof/floor compositions. In addition, it would be nice to know the geographic location (down to the tehsil would be fantastic), orientation and nearby geographic features (ex. 50 feet east of a river). I'm also looking for description of materials, the more specific the better (ex: sun-dried mud bricks mixed with 30% grass). It would be a plus if some information about the occupancy pattern (number of occupants, day and night occupancy) and behavior (leaving the door open all the time, sleeping on the roof) is available.

I have been looking everywhere but all I found are very general descriptions of the architecture in Pakistan. I'm trying to do detail engineering analysis of the building in Pakistan, therefore I need very specific info (such that I can basically recreate the house). I don't need to collect information of all buildings possible out there, but rather a few representative houses of a few distinct building type.

Could you please let me know if you have such information or know where I can find them? I would really appreciate any pointers!
thanks so much!

Victoria, In this forum, I have read of the work of "Laurie Baker, India" which addresses many of the issues of vernacular (homegrown) buildings and the materials used.

Victoria, I forgot to add that it is possible to gain a wealth of knowledge into the design and construction of vernacular architecture of another country by obtaining similar and parallel data on vernacular and traditional building techniques and materials as used in Britain.

Hi Frank,

thanks, I do have lots of vernacular building information, but they are general, I actually need the hard/dry technical details of the buildings themselves, like detail plans and sections of specific houses (i.e. it's not enough to have a "general" plan of the typical building type and then another "general" section, the section and plan and other details would need to belong to the same building), I also need the location and orientation, such that, basically, that I can completely recreate/build the house from scratch. most books have tons of useful info, but it's not enough to allow you to recreate or build those houses from scratch. I appreciate your response, though!

Victoria,
Get in touch with Mr. Kamil Khan Mumtaz,a prominent Architect from Lahore,Pakistan who will in all liklihood have some of the data you need and will point you in the right directions for further information.

Hi Mahrukh,

thanks for your response, yes I did, I did found some files (as it turned out not as many as I would have hoped, because I'm looking for dwellings/homes, not public or religious or other special buildings), But even the ones I found (some with plan and sections even), are not as detailed as I would have hoped (for example, there are some plans with no scale, and no description of the exact thickness of the wall or the exact material it is made out of.....) Unfortunately..... :( as an architect, do you have access to any such info? It can really be any building type (I'm really not picky at this point), just am hoping to get my hands on even just a very few sets of very complete and very detail technical info! cheers!

In my personal library catalogue, I list "Architecture in Pakistan" by Mumtaz and published by Mimar. This book is a text upon traditional architecture.
