Baghya, If memory serves, there are some earlier mentions of this subject and I posted about the wind towers of Yazd in Iran and then someone else posted that there were similar wind towers in Pakistan.

Baghya, a footnote: For the past week Britain has been sweltering in a heat wave and when I visited a charity bookshop (the ideal place for secondhand books). The staff were visibly wilting in thr heat because the shop has a glass front which faces east and catches the sun from dawn (about 5am) onwards. Furthermore, there are no opening windows.

So I suggested that they put up blinds inside the windows and this was thought to be a good idea. I also mentioned a soleil-brise (sun-break?) which would need to be mounted outside.
