retirement resort
Hi,i have taken retirement resort as my thesis project which is proposed on a hilly area !! The concept of my project is based on utopian theme. so i need suggestions regarding the futuristic features which i can incorporate for the older community.

Ayush. I would avoid using the modern practice of "open plan" communal spaces which are put in because this makes it easier for the staff to "control" the residents... regardless of the total lack of privacy and total lack of respect which is due to the elderly.

i appreciate your advice .. but please suggest me how to go through the designing part of it .. n how can i make it more intresting by keeping it private n simple .

Ayush, The thing to remember is people are comfortable with the spaces that they grew up with because the design of such spaces will be familiar.

Given that this is a retirement resort, then the traditional design of spaces within buildings is not open plan. "Open Plan" is a very modern design concept that has appeared only because reinforced concrete allows for large and even huge floors.

On the other hand, you could present your thesis project as a design for people who will be older in the future but are young now, so their perception of space will be slightly different.

And your hilly site immediately invokes the idea of multiple levels of self-contained flats built into the hillside, each flat with an outside garden space to take in the view. :)
