How much the economy plays a role in architecture design. Do we (architects) have to compromise on design due to certain budget.

It plays a critical role. Architects should not have to compromise as the budget is part and parcel of the design problem. If a solution is arrived at independently of the budget, then the architect has done a great dis-service to the client.

in fact economy is the driver in architecture hence great role ,as well there cannot be any compromise on design because it is very noble to give birth to an idea ,so designer has to learn to justify within means the best.

My question actually is in two dimensions. First, that it is true that due to big investments we are free to do the best with our design and in this process we approach the things more professionaly. The second thing is that, when we are talking about big investments we also do try to be unique and that brings alienation to our design. Then the design does not speaks for the people.
