(theoretical) Self-sufficient settlement
If you are to create a (theoretical) isolated, self-sufficient settlement, how can architecture be used to support and encourage community cohesion? What sorts of spaces should be included in the design? Are there good examples of architecture that has been used (more or less) for this purpose?

I'm asking this question as background research for an exhibit at the Museum of Science in Boston, MA, USA.

Thank You,
