finding linkages between gender identity and place identity in urban public spaces
Hey friends,
I want you help me through finding some factors influencing both gender identity and place identity to help enhancing women presence in public spaces of traditional cities.

I think you can have a look at public places in Saudi Arabia, such as malls and and mosques with seperate entrances. I remember having seen a mall where a whole floor was dedicated to women. There, they could walk without their black abaya ( a gown, a bit like a lawyer's dress).

I also remember having seen on TV, a city that was built in a way that men would walk in the streets and women used the roofs to circulate. This way, they would not meet, as this is somehow against Islam. So, as you see, it is reliously and culturally linked. I cannot remember where it was. I guess some place in Africa. Google would be more helpful , I think. Good luck.
