Snigdha, There are a variety of ways of looking at "greening" and some which contradict the very idea of greening.
To take a very basic example is the way in which cheapness masquerades as greening, as with the use of low cost, low maintenance areas outside public buildings. ie "Wall to wall grass".
Ironically, machines which use polluting fossil-fuel are used to commit mass-herbicide on the grass, whereas, the green options would be to use either human or animal power to regulate these lawns of grass. Human or animal power to pull grass-cutting and grass-gathering machines, or small heads of animals to eat the grass.

Another way of looking at "the greening of campuses", would be to create sustainable and self-sustaining communities, whereby the students contributed their time and labour to growing food for the whole community, in the same way as most monasteries in the past were religious communities which feed, clothed and educated themselves by their own efforts.
