Conflict and Natural Disasters

Destruction of cultural heritage in conflict regions
I need both information and images of the destruction of heritage due to the construction of the wall in Palestine, and due to the war in Afghanistan. Yet, other cases will also help.

The case in the Balkans has been very well documented; both the destruction by Serbian armies and militia of mosques during the Bosnian war AND the 'restorative' destruction by ideologically motivated Saudi donors funding re-construction efforts after the war. I suggest you look at the work of Andras Riedlmayer on this issue, for example, his webpage on ArchNet.

And, also take a look at this report: Yugoslavia: Saudi Wahhabi Aid Workers Bulldoze Balkan Monuments

Thank you for the responses so far, please let me know of any other cases and articles that I could use.

Dear Tamima,

Sorry, I did not realize that you're from the Balkans when I wrote above; you probably know about that case first hand. Regarding your question about other examples, I found the following:

Unesco Website for Afghan Cultural Heritage Crisis: this is a pre-Afghan war website that talks about the destruction of Buddhist heritage by Taliban http://www.unesco.org/opi2/afghan-crisis/

Here are a few pages on the destruction of cultural heritage in Palestine:

From Icomos (International Council on Monuments and Sites) homepage: http://www.international.icomos.org/risk/2002/palestine2002.htm

ICOMOS is generally a good place to look.

(I found these by googling a country name and 'cultural heritage')
