Dadamiyan Mosque
Ahmedabad, India
The site for this mosque was a challenging one - a c 800 m2 plot in a densely built residential neighbourhood. Integrating the mosque into this urban context and giving it an 'institutional presence and scale' were consequently the guiding forces behind the project. To achieve this, the wall of tapering masonry masses that encompasses the central prayer hall is conceived as a 'bold and essential urban gesture'. The mosque is designed to accommodate around 2'700 people and is built of reinforced concrete and brick, covered with a rough-textured render.
