Ali S. Asani
Ali S. Asani is a professor of Indo-Muslim and Islamic Religion and Cultures at Harvard University, and former Director of the university’s Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Islamic Studies Program. A scholar of Islam in South Asia, his research focuses on Ismaili and Sufi devotional traditions in the region. He is particularly interested in the role of the arts in fostering religious and cultural literacy about Islam. His books include Celebrating Muhammad: Images of the Prophet in Muslim Devotional Poetry (coauthor; 1995); and Ecstasy and Enlightenment: The Ismaili Devotional Literature of South Asia (2002).
