This paper is an introduction to the Archnet Special Collection : Syria in the Eighties. The collection contains a series of photographs and plans from Syria during the 1980s made by Dr Stefano Bianca, architectural historian, urban designer and the first Director of the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme. These documents are part of this collection donated to the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in 2015.
