This building was constructed in the 1920s by Mostafa Pasha Fahmy. It was among the buildings of the International Fair in Gezira and was changed in the 1960s to a showroom for performing arts, but its design was not suited to this new function. When the earthquake of October 1992 occurred, there were collapses and cracks that made the National Center for Performing Arts take the change to redesign the building to suit its function.
The project consists of many elements, including showrooms for the performing arts, an art library -- the biggest of its kind in Egypt -- with a garden for reading, a cinema, a VIP hall, cafeterias, symposium hall, administrative offices, stores for artwork with an open court, among other facilities.
