Marka Site and Services Housing
Amman, Jordan
After completion of the infrastructure and core units, the government proposed affordable loans to encourage eligible beneficiaries to move to Marka. The latter had then to build their own homes with subsidized building materials and simple construction techniques. Many families built a two-storey house up to 180 m2 surrounded by a garden of about 60 m2. This reflects the preferences of the occupants who often come from a rural background. They can therefore grow a small garden and sit outdoors. Community facilities such as two schools, an indoor sports hall, community, health and vocational training centers, land for a mosque and green areas were also provided.
