Olivier Palace Hotel Renovation
Sfax, Tunisia
Designed by the architect C. Chandieu in 1920 as a hotel with 32 rooms, this building epitomised the Moorish architecture of the early 1930s in Sfax. It was neglected over the years until this recent preservation project remodeled, expanded, and upgraded the building. The basic scheme was to maintain the integrity of the original building, and to replicate the architectural style and detailing in a new U-shaped structure located directly behind the original. This new structure mirrors the original, while addressing the programmatic elements identified in the expansion and the upgrade.
