Mauritius French Insitute
Rose Hill, Mauritius
The French Cultural centre in Mauritius is designed as a welcoming and fluid meeting place for sharing and exchange between the cultures living on the island: Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Buddists. A double high light and open atrium, with an amphitheatre, a cafeteria, exhibition and meeting spaces, interconnects the closed volumes. The atrium is ambiguous; nor inside nor outside, with vegetation from the garden naturally flowing into the building. Pergolas, sunscreens, a floating roof, natural ventilation and vegetation help to keep the internal climate pleasant without air-conditioning.
