Looking back, one sees that the field of architecture has shifted from the analogue to the digital. Innovative design software and new materials have brought myriad opportunities, not yet reflected in architectural pedagogies. Unfortunately, in the Islamic world this is even more apparent and may be exacerbated by COVID-19. The author’s reflections on this transition are perhaps made more poignant by his recent retirement from academia and now from the editorial board of the International Journal of Islamic Architecture.
