Kimisagara Football for Hope Centre
Kigali, Rwanda
The centre includes a half-sized football pitch, changing rooms, library and meeting room, using sports as a means of reconciliation and providing life-skills training and education for youth. The pitch orientation (north/south) activates a path along a watercourse, providing water and public recreational space. The primary building functions are contained within one block whilst a roof with extended canopy gathers overlapping activities, demarcating play areas and borders for informal economies, and harnesses 2.6 million litres of rainfall annually. Solar powered lighting reduces utility fees and provides some community resources. High windows facilitate natural cross-ventilation, and, deep overhangs also assist with the cooling of interior spaces.
