No Name Shop
Najafabad, Iran
The architects divided the site, on a nondescript street largely populated by shoddy buildings, into a large integrated clothing shop with four independent mezzanines, built mostly below ground, that overlook each other, a design inspired by old markets, particularly that of Isfahan. The building is composed of concrete, with joist and block ceilings and white ceramic tiles for the walls, floors and stairs. The client paid to renovate an historic old house opposite; a dialogue between old and new has been created with the occasional reflection of the house facade through a modern red-tiled frame placed around the shopfront.
