This project involves the implemented phases of a masterplan for the central axis of the city of Korça. Although phases of the masterplan are ongoing, the central concepts have been implemented, including the pedestrianisation of the Boulevard Shën Gjergji, which connects the new square of the Orthodox Cathedral with the most recent intervention, a Campanile anchoring Theatre Square-a prominent historic statue has been relocated to announce the new axial connection, and richly textured and inscribed pavement patterns unify the whole area. Four further squares in residential areas of the city centre have also been reconceptualised, with these public spaces now providing a yardstick for private developers to build while maintaining respect for the city’s historic fabric.
