Part of an ambitious plan to revive Manama Old Souq, the project deals with an important part of the souq at the Bab Al Bahrain, historically the main gate to Manama, facing the seafront. The project has involved the preservation of the historic fabric of the first police station and post office of Manama; the demolition of the deteriorated parts of the building and replacement with a two-storey building with shops inside; the rehabilitation of the façade opposite; and the pedestrianisation of Bab Al Bahrain Avenue. It is hoped the project will have a snowball effect in revitalising the area, enticing locals and tourists, and raising awareness for the preservation of further areas of the souq.
