Edremit Villa
Kyrenia, Cyprus

The Villa, single storey house with a partial mezzanine floor, is a reinforced concrete structure, and covers an area of 546 m2 on a plot of 4000 m2. The hierarchical order of "privacy" which forms the foundation of the traditional Turkish Cypriot home has been achieved though broken-off masses, both indoors and outdoors, planned to parallel sea views, with Cypriot yellow stone walls placed vertically in opposite directions to attain a differentiation between these masses. The kitchen/family room is a semi-private space like the sundurme (traditional Cypriot family room typically located at the heart of the house), and acts as both a vertical and horizontal connection among indoor and outdoor and general private spaces.
