Kiarong House
Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam
The house was built speculatively for an average, mid-sized family in Brunei and subsequently sold to a client who uses it as a vacation home. It is a two storey residence on a quiet and tranquil site with lush greenery outside. The common family areas on the ground level are designed to be connected to the outdoors with sliding doors and a skylight allowing for air flow and natural light. The private rooms on the first floor are by contrast designed as a large, enclosed box to enhance privacy. Building materials are natural stone, exposed concrete, and cement plastered walls, with mild steel structural columns that maintain simplicity and openness and create the concept of a light roof cover over the living areas.
