Uniq Istanbul Cultural Centre
Istanbul, Türkiye
In the creation of this Cultural Centre a rational grid was laid over the site, allowing free space around the existing mansions looking over green roofs which blend the new buildings into context, and freeing circulation areas around concert halls, a university, office spaces, a museum, galleries and cinemas, and shopping area. The sloping topography was used to obscure large masses and scale down building heights. The new buildings were designed as a neutral backdrop to the mansions and the materials palette and structural design are deliberately non-intrusive, with a transparency to ensure continuity between indoors and outdoors. Underground parking is provided and access and circulation are simple to navigate.
