Higher Institute of Technological Studies
Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia
The ISET fills the employment needs of the ambitious agricultural development programmes and the creation of a network of small and medium agribusiness enterprises in the region. Built on a three-hectare site on the existing university campus, the institute highlights modernity while respecting cultural history. A sometimes porous screen symbolising a protected city defines, through flexible spaces and curves, student access, administration and openness of the quarter-sphere amphitheatre. A fairly compact morphology emerges in educational blocks, classrooms and laboratories on two levels around patio/gardens. Energy consumption is reduced by optimising insulation, reducing solar impact, using solar panels for hot water production and an IT system to control lighting, heating and air-conditioning.
