Reconstruction of Al-Zaytoun Housing
Gaza, Palestine
As part of large-scale reconstruction of Gaza to mitigate the impact of the 2008-2009 war, a self- help owner driven model project to reconstruct 35 of the homes destroyed.  Incentives were given to encourage green building techniques such as solar water heating, rain water collection, planters, planting, vertical defenders and canopies. The beneficiaries have significantly contributed by managing their construction and ensuring full compatibility between design standards and user needs. Delays have occurred due to the closure of Gaza and the absence of construction materials. The project is expected to be fully completed by the end of January 2016.
