Located just outside the Walled City of Multan, the Ghanta Ghar Square is about a hundred years old and faces the historic Fort Qasim Bagh, with the Shah Rukn-e Alam Shrine standing in the forefront. The area had suffered badly from encroachments, haphazard development and road construction, and the urban renewal project has attempted to reverse this process by making infrastructural improvements (installing sewerage channels and rainwater drainage systems) removing encroachments and opening up public spaces, and the documentation and conservation of historic landmarks including the Ghanta Ghar, Damdama, Deh Gate and Shah Rukn-e Alam shrine.
