Edges Apartments
Salmiya, Kuwait
The design of this ten-storey apartment building with two units per floor evolved in response to certain challenges posed by the site and the client’s desire for a timeless and iconic structure that is energy efficient and utilizes local materials to keep it cost effective. The building is clad in distinctive fired brick and fair face concrete and each floor is staggered on either side of a finite axis, creating a sculptural façade that breaks up the strong winds blowing from the sea and provides overhangs creating shade for the windows on each floor. The highly compacted plan with simple, pared-down interiors, maximizes the rental space.
