Pourkan Villa
Karaj, Iran
Emphasizing the potential value of leftover spaces, this project revitalised a 150 m2 villa in the Alborz ranges, using local technologies and workers, and integrating the open and closed spaces, allowing air to flow from the garden to the most intimate space of the villa. It achieved a clear geometry by two sword-like cuts that provide a continuous clear-cut space from the staircase to the ceiling(s), and a delicate interplay of light, shadow and colour in the white interior by using the traditional sedari (meaning three doors). The sedari is the anchor of the villa: it functions as it has in the past with the sunlight playing through its red, green and yellow windows, creating a dynamic immaterial ornamentation and ambience inside.
