The Patio de la Reja was built between 1654 and 1655 to serve as the courtyard for the&nbsp;<a href="http://archnet.org/sites/19746" target="_blank" data-bypass="true">Habitaciones Imperiales (Emperor's Chambers)</a>, which were a set of rooms intended for Emperor Charles V.
