Shaikha Moza Mosque
Riffa, Bahrain

Traditional architectural forms were adopted for this mosque that honours the late Shaikha Moza bint Hamad Al Khalifa. On a triangular site, the mosque and small majlis are connected by a covered colonnade; a minaret abuts the majlis and marks the narrowest point of the site. The main prayer hall is surmounted by a dome and accommodates 700 worshippers, and 240 female worshippers on the upper mezzanine; the paved exterior accommodates an additional 800 worshippers. The structure is reinforced concrete; great attention was given to crafting the structural components and all finishes and details as modern expressions of traditional Bahraini architecture.
