In a forest north of Dhaka, the secondary residence is raised on reinforced concrete footings and columns. The 40-cm rammed-earth walls are made from local clay stabilised with gravel, and three colours of clay provide contrasting striations; mud walls were selected to enhance heating in winter and cooling in summer. The gabled roof is constructed of steel pipe-columns, covered on the exterior with corrugated metal; palm and bamboo timbers are used for interior partitions, the ceiling, and door and window frames. The staircase is steel-framed with palm-wood treads; the upper observatory is built from bricks. Special attention was given to maintaining all of the trees on the site.
