Noor-E-Mobin School
Bastam, Iran

Instead of a single building, the tuition-free school is conceived as a neighbourhood with open and enclosed spaces flowing together and into each other; it currently serves elementary school students and there are plans for future expansion. Three education units each contain classrooms, a multipurpose room, workshops, a teacher’s room, a kitchen, toilets, and an outdoor classroom and activity space; the fourth unit contains an art studio, science lab, and a teacher’s lounge, and an outdoor garden for the students. The steel-framed buildings have brick infill walls and are arranged around courtyards and exterior playing fields; some of the roofs are accessible and used as outdoor classrooms.
