Zeina Women's Centre
Um a-Nasser, Palestine

In a Bedouin village, the centre seeks to enable women to generate income through tailoring and the carpentry of wooden toys; it also provides social and psychological counselling for women. Workshops are located on the ground floor, along with an area to exhibit finished products near the entrance; the upper floor houses the women’s centre with offices and a multi-purpose hall for training and events; and the roof is accessed underneath a pergola and used for social events and meetings. Compressed earth blocks, stabilised with 3% cement, are used for the construction, including for the two vaults that cover a portion of the first floor. 30 women have been trained in the centre that serves some 200 families.
