Villa Mehrshahr
Karaj, Iran

On a large site featuring many trees and a 3-hectare lake at its centre, the two-storey project is a secondary residence for two sons and their families; their parents’ home is located nearby. The living areas feature expansive views over the lake, complemented by an open viewing terrace connected to the upper floor by an elevated bridge. The double-pitched roof was carefully designed to accommodate clerestory glazing at the central juncture to provide heat during winter while shielding direct summer sunlight; window openings and interstices in the local-stone façade also temper sunlight while permitting views. Very few existing trees were disturbed in order to integrate the project in the landscape.
