Bugulma, Russian Federation

The town of Bugulma in Tatarstan features a lake in its centre, fed by the Bolshoy Cheremshan River; this project is a renovation of the lake and springs and reinforcement of the river banks; the introduction of viewing terraces, pergolas, walking trails, and paved pathways; extensive planting of lawns and greenery; the creation of a children’s park; and the renovation of a pedestrian bridge. Locally-available or  produced materials were used throughout. The public areas are widely used for social and cultural events, and the great popularity of the project led local residents to request the development of a second stage to pedestrianize additional streets near the town centre.
