The key aim of this competition-winning design was to integrate with the city, functionally and symbolically. Located on the main road between Istanbul and Edirne, the building incorporates a flexible configuration of ticket offices, commercial spaces and areas for waiting and socialising, sandwiched between intercity bus platforms to the south and rural minibus platforms to the north. The symbolic roof covering holds the different functions together. At the west end - the main connection to the urban context - the roof slopes upwards to mark the public potential of the space beneath, which contains restaurant, bar and shops serving not only passengers but also the local community. The main materials - concrete and steel - are left naked to emphasise their structurality.
