The private home is a contemporary expression of traditional Persian architecture and, particularly, of historic Persian gardens within domestic settings. The L-shaped plan of the two-storey house permits the traditional separation of private and public areas of the home, and the residence is integrated into a garden that incorporates the supply of water through underground irrigation (qanat) that is used for courtyard pools and to temper the hot, arid climate. The architecture recalls traditional forms such as a bala-khaneh or upper room, and the gardens include such features as a sunken orchard of bitter- orange trees.
