(Gol) Kaneh
Karaj, Iran

At the foot of the Alborz Mountains on the edge of Karaj, some 60 kilometres from Tehran, the private residence for a family of six is a two-storey structure with concrete columns supporting concrete slabs; the lateral brick walls are laid in the traditional "kaleh-rasteh" technique of one full brick followed by a half-brick, yielding great texture and variety. The stark outer façade of the horizontal plan serves as a buffer from the busy street off of which the house is located; the inner façade looks onto the landscaped property and gardens, and features expansive views through an abundance of windows.
