‘Future of Us’ Pavilion
Singapore, Singapore

A prototype of the pavilion originally was mounted at the 2014 Venice Biennale. It was then commissioned as a temporary installation on a 101-hectare garden site to house important events commemorating the 50th anniversary of Singapore’s independence; the pavilion proved so popular that it is now a permanent structure for public events and celebrations. Providing shade while permitting natural ventilation, the main structure is steel and features a digitally-designed roof constituted of 11,000 triangular steel panels that are 20-centimetres thick; the panels are perforated with different designs and patterns to permit or impede solar penetration and the circulation of air from winds and breezes. The roof spans almost 50 metres and, at its apex, reaches a height of 16 metres.
