OVNI House B
Bouskoura, Morocco

A play on the French acronym for UFO that substitutes the word living for flying, the project is getaway home for a family from Casablanca; the single-level three-bedroom house is self-sufficient and -sustainable. The northern façade is absorbed in the sloping site; the entrance, southern façade features full-height double-glazing that can be left exposed or protected by operable shutters. Interior spaces and furniture are modular, allowing for many different interior configurations. The principal structure is timber post-and-beam, and the walls are plastered adobe. Solar panels are affixed to the cork-insulated roof to provide all electricity; a rainwater collection tank is underground and provides all water; and a phyto-purification system recycles all waste water to irrigate the vegetable garden.
