In a mountainous village characterised by harsh winters and fierce winds, the single-family home takes advantage of the sloping site by placing recreational and sports areas on the lower floor. The two floors above it are conceived as a duplex with a double-height living area off of which are located cooking, dining, and storage areas; bedrooms are located on the uppermost floor. The construction is a clear-span steel frame, including the specially-designed beams that form the asymmetrical roof. Careful consideration was given to siting the house to provide views over the mountains and nearby fields while protecting the eastern and western façades against the harsh climate.
